Dont Lose Sleep If You Lose Your Job

If you have had Salary Protection for six months, you qualify for the retrenchment benefit. If your claim is successful, FRANK will pay you an agreed portion of your monthly take-home pay for a maximum of six months or until you get another job, whichever happens first.

Salary Protection Payouts

There are a number of factors to take into account when applying for a Salary Protection policy from FRANK:


The monthly payouts will start three months after your last payment from your employer.


FRANK will pay you if you lose your job as a result of your employer facing adverse business conditions, introducing new technology or restructuring the organisation and your employer followed a legitimate retrenchment process in terms of the Labour Relations Act.

As long as our agreement with you has been active for at least six months, you’re not self-employed, employed by any of your family members or were aware that you’ll be retrenched before taking the cover, FRANK will pay out for a maximum of six months. Voluntary retrenchment is not covered, and you cannot have declined a reasonable alternative job offer either from the employer that retrenched you or from any other potential employer. You need to actively seek employment during the claim period.

FRANK won’t pay out if you have not been in permanent, uninterrupted employment for at least 24 months before the start of the retrenchment process. (One break of less than 30 days between employers will be considered as uninterrupted employment.) You should also have been permanently employed for at least 12 months by your current employer.

Important Stuff


Once you have Salary Protection from FRANK, alert us to any changes to the physical obligations of your occupation. Make sure we know if you start or stop smoking and start or stop risky sports or activities, or if you plan to travel outside of South Africa for more than 30 days in a row. We may have to adjust your agreed payout and monthly payments. If you don’t let us know, any future claim may be affected.


We want to ensure that when you claim, we pay. FRANK will not be able to pay the claim if you harm or injure yourself on purpose, or if you are injured while breaking the law or while intentionally putting yourself in a position where you are exposed to terrorism, war or war-like activities.


FRANK needs you to go for an HIV test, within 90 days of the start of the policy agreement to qualify for full cover. FRANK will pay and arrange for a nurse to do the test. Your results are kept strictly confidential. The results of the test may affect your cover and your monthly payment.
